The project was for the construction of a new build Crematorium together with a chapel, along with an associated memorial garden, new access roads and public car parking facilities, staff parking facility, a service yard, floral tribute area, landscaping, drainage balancing pond, photovoltaic array and associated works. Specialist fit out and M&E works for the crematorium was required and empathetic landscaping.
The works also involved section 278 road works on the A44, a main arterial route between Pershore and Evesham. Close liaison with the local authority highways department and statutory utilities were paramount in order to alleviate traffic congestion. Surfacing works were carried out during nightshifts due to the sensitive issue of traffic flows.
Demolition and disposal of existing structures had to be carried out on the site initially and there was an electrical cable running across the site along with overhead power lines which all needed diverting. An underground gas supply, sewage and drainage also needed diverting prior to construction of the crematorium and chapel. An existing footpath across the site was to be diverted around the southern part of the site for public access.
In order to offer value engineering and a reduction in environmental impact we reused materials excavated from the site back into the site, the timber used for the structure was from sustainable sources and rainwater harvesting was put in place. Specialist environmental equipment was used for the function of the crematorium to minimise air pollution to a negligible level.
