Encon Construction is proud to announce that we were awarded the Project of the Year Award 2017 by Constructing Excellence Wales for our project in Tremorfa Cardiff, for the Organic Waste Anaerobic Digestion Plant, showing what an SME is capable of.
The project was for the design and construction of a 35,000t per annum Anaerobic Digestion Facility on a Brownfield site in Cardiff. The project consisted of Reception Building, Tank Farm, Bunded enclosure and Access roads. There were many challenges onthe project such as Design & Build, CIRIA Guidelines and contaminated land to name only a few.
This project stood out from the crowd for many reasons. We overcame the difficult and contaminated ground conditions with bespoke Civil Engineering solutions. Not least in the fact that it took what was an area of brownfield land, land that was a “liability” and turned it in to what is now an asset for all parties and the communities that it serves.
It will reduce waste to the amount of 35,000 tonnes per year and produce 2MWh of energy for the national grid and in addition the by-product of the process will be used as fertilizer for farmlands
Early collaboration with the client, processing contractor and designers, resulted in construction solutions and value engineering options for a complex engineering scheme.
