Encon Leadership

Richard Miles

Managing Director

Richard is the Managing Director of Encon Construction and as such is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company including Health & Safety and ensuring all projects, in both our civil engineering and construction sectors, are carried out to the highest standards.

Richard has over 40 years’ experience gained across a range of construction disciplines within both the Private and Public sectors. He joined Encon in 2012 to head up a newly formed construction division, and in 2024 made the transition from Construction Director to Managing Director. Richard is committed to making a difference and giving back to the industry and he is a Chartered Construction Manager, member of the Working Well Together Group, FIR Ambassador, and MCIOB Mentor.

Liam Beattie

Commercial Director

As the Commercial Director, Liam is responsible for all commercial and financial aspects of the company. Liam has 30 years’ experience in the industry and is from a major contractor background.

He is responsible for overseeing the quantity surveying department and the overall financial control of Encon Construction. Liam is experienced in working on all contract including NEC and JCT suite of contracts.

Mike Brooks

Technical Services Director

As Technical Services Director, Mike is responsible for managing all aspects of the estimating, buying and pre-construction technical functions within the company.

Mike has over 30 years’ experience in the industry and previously worked for a large national contractor. Mike is experienced in negotiating with clients to provide value engineering options, to maintain budget and programme security for our projects.

Geraint Evans

Civil Engineering Director

As the Civil Engineering Director, Geraint is responsible for overseeing all civil engineering frameworks and projects within the company. Geraint has over 30 years’ experience in civil and structural engineering, gaining experience through large national construction companies.

Geraint is experienced with all forms of civil engineering and steel frame structures in construction and his experience allows him to offer alternative design and construction advice, offering value engineering having worked on many high profile projects.

Phil Woodward

Non-Executive Chairman

Phil is a Non-Executive Chairman at Encon Construction. Phil founded Encon in 2003 as Managing Director building up the company from a small civil engineering company to multi-million pound civil engineering and construction company, delivering projects across a wide range of public and commercial sectors. Phil stepped down as Managing Director in 2024 after 20 years of service and is now a Non-Executive Director to further support the growth of Encon into the future.

Phil has over 40 years’ experience and is highly respected throughout the industry. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a past chairman of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) and sits on the board of the CECA.

Antonia John

Head of Social Value

Antonia has over 20 years experience in the construction industry having worked for UK wide organisations in both the private and public sector.

Antonia’s specialist skills, include building and maintaining relationships with clients, organisations and stakeholders, managing teams, facilitating workshops, presentations, training, writing publications, marketing and public relations.

As a member of the CIH, an Associate Tutor in Housing at Cardiff Metropolitan University, CITB Ambassador, FIR Ambassador and Mental Health First Aider, Antonia plays a key role in representing the industry and educating the new generation of construction individuals.

Keith Pritchard

Pre-Construction Manager

Keith is a highly motivated individual with extensive knowledge within the built environment and main contracting. Having worked in all sectors, he is able to give great diversity to each project with a proven international track record at senior management level on multi-million-pound schemes.

Keith believes that the core success to any project is communication and knowledge share which he installs into the project and to all stake holders of the project from inception through to completion. Keith also has a ‘do it once and do it right’ approach to construction which produces an extremely high-quality end product.

Tahra van Schalkwyk

Bid Manager

As Bid Manager, Tahra is responsible for creating and overseeing all bids on behalf of our organisation to gain business contracts.

She is an experienced Bid Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the construction industry. With previous experience working in the pre-construction departments of tier 2 main contractors, Tahra is skilled in bid writing, tender management, digital marketing and design.

Phill Woodward | Managing Director

Phil is the Managing Director of Encon Construction and as such is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Company including Health & Safety and ensuring all Civil Engineering projects and Construction projects are carried out to the highest standards. Phil has over 30 years’ experience and is highly respected throughout the industry. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a past chairman of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association.

Liam Beattie | Commercial Director

Liam, as the Commercial Director, is responsible for all Commercial and Financial aspects of the Company. Liam has 28 years’ experience in the industry and is from a Major Contractor background. He is responsible for overseeing the Quantity Surveying Department and the overall Financial control of Encon. Liam is experienced in working on all Main Contract Forms including the NEC3 and JCT suite of contracts.

Richard is committed to making a difference and giving back to the industry, and is a member of the Working Well Together Group, CITB Construction Ambassador, FIR Ambassador, Mental Health First Aider, MCIOB Mentor and Vice Chairman of the Glamorgan Construction Training Group.
