Following on from the successful completion of the refurbishment of Delta Car Park at Bristol Airport, we are very pleased to report excellent progress at our Bristol Airport Cogloop 2 Infrastructure project. The project comprises the new build construction of a 51,000m2 surface level car park and associated roads, and forms part of Bristol Airport’s overall multi-million-pound transformational development plan enabling 12 million passengers a year to use the Airport.
Works include: Cut & fill earthworks, SuDS (Sustainable Drainage System), geogrid cellular parking system with an asphalt entrance and circulation routes, mobile lighting with permanent ducting for future works, and soft landscaping works.
The original grassland supported foraging greater and lesser horseshoe bats. The car park design incorporates a number of features for these species including trees and hedgerows along a dark perimeter. Restoration of the existing pond will enhance the conditions for the bats, plus common amphibians, birds and invertebrates, as well as badgers. A Woodland Management Plan for some 8ha of woodland close to the airport has also been approved and implemented. This has enabled the restoration of the woodland to enhance foraging and roosting opportunities for the bats, plus other species, including dormice. All existing trees, hedgerows and other habitat connections have been retained around the car park with the addition of areas of species rich grassland. The main parking surface will be seeded to enhance the visual impact and increase permeability. Long term monitoring and management will ensure these features provide the ecological function and support local biodiversity for years to come.
